Cheap Hotel in Hong Kong

Hotels in Hong Kong offer remarkable glimpses upon a city nicknamed the “Pearl of the Orient”. A special Chinese administrative district, Hong Kong is located just south of Shenzhen and across the Zhujiang River Estuary from Macau, an autonomous region known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”. A fast ferry one-way between Hong Kong and Macau takes about an hour. Known for its impressive skyline, harbors, shopping centers, restaurants, nightlife, museums, old-world traditions, new-world energy, natural surroundings and architecture, Hong Kong ranks as one of the world’s most expensive cities. Hong Kong’s currency is the Hong Kong dollar, cars travel on the left-hand side and the drinking age is 18 years old. Cantonese is the most widely spoken language, although nearly half of the population speaks English as well. Before traveling to Hong Kong it may be advisable to learn some Cantonese phrases and to learn to eat with chopsticks. An Octopus card is useful for making contactless electronic payments. Hong Kong festivals include Clockenflap, Lantern Festival, Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Ghost Festival and Dragon Boat Festival. While relatively a bit pricey, hotels in Hong Kong do come with all the bells and whistles. Before we get to hotels in Hong Kong, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Archaeological evidence suggests that people have inhabited the Hong Kong area for over 35,000 years. The area was first incorporated into China by way of the Qin dynasty circa 214 BCE. Portuguese explorer Jorge Álvares became the first European to visit the area in 1513. The Canton System was introduced in 1757 in order to regulate trade. In 1842, Hong Kong became a colony of the British Empire, which influenced the area’s significant economic expansion. The territory was transferred to China in 1997, becoming a special administrative region with a separate governing and economic system than that of the mainland.

Officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong sits alongside the Pearl River estuary in southern China. One of the world’s most densely populated cities, Hong Kong is home to around 7.5 million people. As such, the Pearl of the Orient has the largest number of skyscrapers of any city in the world. Summers are hot and humid, whereas winters are mild and typically sunny. Snowfall is rare. Hong Kong benefits from a capitalist mixed service economy, with low taxation and minimal government market intervention, emphasizing economic liberty and the rule of law. Over half the city’s population identifies themselves as “Hongkongers”, while only around 10 percent consider themselves “Chinese”. Restaurants, nightlife, cinema, music, business and sports are some of Hong Kong’s main attractions. Three forms of gambling are legal in Hong Kong: the lottery, horse racing and football. Major points of interest include the International Commerce Centre, Two International Finance Centre, Flagstaff House, Tin Hau Temple, Ping Shan Heritage Trail, Lui Seng Chun, Blue House, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Avenue of Stars, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Happy Valley Racecourse and Hong Kong Stadium. Popular foods include pork, goose, chicken, seafood, wontons and dim sim (a Cantonese, bite-sized steamed dumping). A widely-sought alcoholic drink is baijiu (a strong, clear liquor served neat and usually with dinner). Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Hong Kong that are sure to help make for an outstanding trip.

Hotels in Bangkok

Hotels in Bangkok Thailand

Hotels in Bangkok provide enchanting accommodations in a destination nicknamed “City of Angels”. Known for its cuisine, night & street life, cultural landmarks, parks, canals, temples, shrines and indeed, red-light districts, Bangkok is located in southern Thailand on the Gulf of Thailand. About half-way between the countries of Myanmar and Cambodia, Bangkok is a uniquely English-speaking city. When traveling to Bangkok, it’s best to respect the rules of Buddhism as well as the Thai royal family. Avoid kissing in public, throwing chewed gum onto the ground and pointing the soles of your feet at anyone. Additionally, watch out for scams, overcharging and dual pricing, an example of which being the gem scam. Bangkok currency is the Thai Baht, cars travel on the left-hand side and the drinking age is 20 years old. While there are multiple red-light districts found in the city, keep in mind that prostitution is technically illegal in Thailand, though not strictly enforced. Bangkok festivals include Kolour In The Park, Wonderfruit, Big Mountain Festival, Full Moon Party, Songkran (Thai New Year), Chinese New Year, The King’s Birthday, Loy Krathong and Candle Festival. Hotels in Bangkok are some of the best in all of Asia. Before we get to hotels in Bangkok, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Dating back to the early 15th century, Bangkok has grown from a village, to a fortified customs outpost, to a town, and eventually into a present-day metropolis. A siege in 1688 resulted in the French being expelled from Siam (the former name of Thailand). King Taksin established a capital near present-day Bangkok circa 1767, thus establishing the Thonburi Kingdom. Succeeding Taksin, King Phutthayotfa Chulalok founded the Rattanakosin Kingdom in 1782. The City Pillar, erected on April 21, 1782, marked the official foundation of Bangkok as the country’s capital. International trade, first with the Chinese and then with the Western world, contributed to the city’s rise. Alongside the Japanese during World War II, Bangkok was hit by Allied bombing. After WWII, the city was re-built by the United States, becoming a popular R&R destination for military personnel. Thereafter, Japanese businesses began to invest in the city. Expansion continued rapidly, stalled only by the 1997 Asian financial crisis.

Home to roughly 8.5 million people, Bangkok is Thailand’s capital and most populous city. The City of Angels enjoys a tropical savanna climate. Average high temperatures hover around 90 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, while average lows remain in the 70s. The city’s record low is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Architecture, attractions and city life create an adventurous atmosphere, with royal palaces, temples, museums, shopping malls, restaurants, night-life and sex tourism being main draws. Bangkok’s major points of interest include Sathon, Giant Swing, Victory Monument, Rama VIII Bridge, Wat Arun, Grand Palace, Royal Plaza, Lumphini Park, Chinatown, MahaNakhon, Khao San Road, Siam Discovery, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Museum of Contemporary Art, National Stadium and Hua Mak Sports Complex.  Popular Bangkok foods are hot and sour soup, fried noodles, sticky rice and spicy meats. Drinks include beer, whiskey, iced tea and coffee. Now that we have some background information on the city, it’s time for hotels in Bangkok that will help make for a memorable experience.

Hotels in Seoul

Hotels in Seoul

Hotels in Seoul offer pristine accommodations in a destination with past names to include Wiryeseong, Hanyang, Hanseong and Keijō. Known for its pop music, television dramas, kimchi-based cuisine, cosmetics industry and expansive area, Seoul is located in Northwest South Korea, just 30 miles from the DMZ. When traveling to Seoul,  its best to accept things using both hands, call taxis using your palm and learn at least a few basic words such as annyeonghasibnikka (hello), annyeong (goodbye), gamsahabnida (thank you) and dangsin-eun yeong-eoleulhasibnikka (do you speak English?). Keep in mind that English is not widely spoken, cars travel on the right-hand side, currency is the South Korean Won and the drinking age is 19 years old. A Tmoney card can be used as a transportation card as well as a form of payment at affiliated stores. Seoul festivals include Seoul Jazz Festival, Ultra Korea, ETP Fest, Dream Concert, Seoul World DJ Festival, Zandari Festa, Ssamzi Sound Festival, DMZ Peace Train Music Festival, Seoul Fringe Festival, Lotus Lantern Festival, Seongbuk World Beer Festival, Tea World Festival, Yeouido Cherry Blossom Festival, Royal Culture Festival, Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival, Seoul Rose Festival, Seoul Gugak Festival, Chuseok and Boryeong Mud Festival. The city’s professional football club is FC Seoul, which plays its games at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Hotels in Seoul are some of the best in Eastern Asia. Before we get you to hotels in Seoul, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Founded in 18 BCE, Seoul is located along the Han River. Surrounded by mountains and hills, the city traces its modern roots to the 14th century. Gyeongbok Palace, built in 1395, served as a royal residence until 1592. Early-on, the city was enclosed by a massive stone wall, which warded off attacks, thieves and wild animals. After being isolated for hundreds of years behind its wall, Seoul opened its gates to foreigners and began to modernize circa the late 19th century. Under Japanese rule from 1910 to 1945, the area was known as Keijō. Following liberation after World War II, the city officially became known as Seoul. During the Korean War, control of the city went back and forth several times between Soviet/Chinese-backed North Korea and American-backed South Korea, resulting in heavy damage. Post-Korean War Seoul continued modernization. By 1972, the city had expanded rapidly. The cultural, economic and political capital of South Korea, Seoul hosted the 1988 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

South Korea’s capital and largest metropolis, Seoul today has a population of around 10 million people. Seoul’s five UNESCO Heritage sites include Changdeok Palace, Hwaseong Fortress, Jongmyo Shrine, Namhansanseong and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. With a GDP of $636 billion, the city accounts for the world’s 4th largest metropolitan economy, trailing only Tokyo, New York City and Los Angeles. The city’s high temperatures range from around 85 degrees Fahrenheit in August to around 35 degrees in January. Seoul’s major international airport is Incheon International Airport, ranked as the world’s best airport for nearly 15 years, while its high-speed train system is the KTX. Major points of interest include Gangnam, Yeouido, Lotte World Tower, Sungnyemun, Deoksugung, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, National Museum of Korea, National Palace Museum of Korea, Gyeongbokgung, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Bukchon Hanok Village, Namsangol Hanok Village, War Memorial, Seodaemun Prison, Seoul Museum of Art, Ilmin Museum of Art, Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, Myeongdong Cathedral, Namsan Park, Hangang Park, Lotte World, Seoul Olympic Stadium, and Jamsil Baseball Stadium. Popular foods include bibimbap (a Korean rice dish), bulgogi (also known as “fire meat”), samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and tteokbokki  (stir-fried rice cakes). Kimchi, a traditional Korean side dish consisting of salted and fermented vegetables, is a South Korean staple. Drinks are soju (a sweet spirit), bokbunja ju (a fruit wine), banana milk and various teas. Lager is the most popular type of beer. Now that we have some more background information on the city, it’s time for hotels in Seoul that are sure to inspire.

So there they are, hotels in Seoul that will help make for a great trip. We hope you have found this information valuable and most importantly, that you enjoy your time in South Korea!

Hotels in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur Hotels

Hotels in Kuala Lumpur represent some of Malaysia’s finest accommodations in a destination nicknamed “The Garden City of Lights”. Meaning “muddy confluence”, Kuala Lumpur is located at the Gombak and Klang rivers’ confluence. Known for its impressive skyline, cuisine, malls and phenomenal natural surroundings, the Kuala Lumpur area is home to wonders such as Batu Caves, which date back 400 million years. Moderately conservative, Kuala Lumpur is a Muslim region. Women travelers, however, should have no problem wearing dresses out in public or bikinis at the beach, though it’s best to adhere to more reserved behavior.  The Malaysian ringgit is Malaysia’s official currency and the legal drinking age is 21 years old. Big events include Thaipusam, Wesak Day, Kaamatan and Gawai Harvest Festivals, Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Malaysia Water Festival, Control World Expo and ARCHIDEX. The area’s professional football club is Kuala Lumpur City F.C.  Hotels in Kuala Lumpur are exciting to consider. Before we get to hotels in Kuala Lumpur, let’s take a look at some more background information to help you along the way.

Although it is unknown who founded Kuala Lumpur, history suggests that it developed via tin mining along the Selangor River. During the early-to-mid 1800s, the area became a small hamlet, facing a number of adversities such as malaria, cholera, fire and flooding. Serious infliction ensued, which caused the settlement to be rebuilt a few times. Early Chinese and Malay settlements were set up along the Klang River’s east bank. In 1882, Sir Frank Swettenham, a British colonial administrator, was appointed Resident of Kuala Lumpur. Swettenham proved highly competent in developing the area into a major urban center, boosting earnings from the tin, coffee and tobacco trades by constructing a railway from Kuala Lumpur to the port of Klang. Kuala Lumpur expanded rapidly in the 1900s, largely due to rubber production. In 1957, when Tunku Abdul Tahman and the United Malays National Organisation took control of the area by way of the Malayan Declaration of Independence, Malaysia gained independence from British rule.

Commonly known as KL and officially known as the Federal Territory of Kuala, Kuala Lumpur is the largest city and national capital of Malaysia. Today, Kuala Lumpur draws in over 9 million tourists annually, making it one of the world’s most traveled cities. With an estimated population of over 1.7 million people, The Garden City of Lights is the least-inhabited major Asian city.
