Hotels in New Orleans

Hotels in New Orleans feature cozy accommodations in a city nicknamed “The Big Easy” and “NOLA”. Laid-back, easy-going, New Orleans is commonly pronounced “New OR-lins” or by locals “New AHL-lee-ins”.  The Big Easy is known for its unique dialect, Creole cuisine,  jazz music and its world-renowned celebration Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday. When attending Mardi Gras, try and book your hotel at least 8 months in advance. Keep in mind that most hotels require a 4 to 5 day minimum stay during this time of year. Mardi Gras notable rules are to keep coolers and grills at least 6 feet from the curb and to keep alcoholic beverages in cans or cups. Glass bottles are not allowed and flashing, as well as public urination, can get you arrested. Be sure to arrive at least 4 hours early for Mardi Gras and remember that the general public’s vehicles are prohibited within the French Quarter during this time. Year-round live music seekers may find lively entertainment at Frenchmen Street. The city’s professional sports teams are the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans. Additional events include New Orleans Film Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival, French Quarter Festival, Satchmo SummerFest, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, Freret Street Festival, Tales of the Cocktail, Oak Street Po-Boy Festival, Bayou Boogaloo, Essence Fest, BUKU Music + Art Project and Hogs for the Cause. Indeed, hotels in New Orleans are some of the best in the southern United States. Before we get you to hotels in New Orleans, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Founded in 1718 by the French Mississippi Company, New Orleans was named after Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, who was Regent of the Kingdom of France. Like with many frontier cities, French colonists faced adversity by way of Native American attacks. The Natchez Revolt of 1729 accounted for 230 colonist deaths. Following the Seven Years’ War, France ceded the area to the Spanish Empire. Ironically, French Quarter architecture was built by the Spanish during the 18th-century. During the American Revolutionary War, New Orleans became an important port for smuggling aid to the rebels. Military equipment and supplies were transported up the Mississippi River. The term “Dixie”, as applied to currency, originated in the city. After the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, New Orleans became a United States city and expanded rapidly. By 1810, over half a million slaves had been brought to the area, which fueled the Confederate economy. Collectively, slaves were valued at around half a billion dollars. Just prior to the American Civil War, New Orleans had per capita income that ranked second in the nation, as well as the third busiest port behind Boston and New York. The capture of New Orleans in 1862, which resulted in zero casualties, proved to be a turning point in the Civil War, as it gave the Union Army the strategic positioning and momentum needed to take control of the Mississippi River. Population doubled in the 1930s, with Anglo-Americans, German and Irish immigrants becoming the area’s newest settlers.

With inhabitants numbering around 350,000 people today, New Orleans is Louisiana‘s most populated city. NOLA benefits from short, mild winters, while summers are hot and humid. A major worldly port city with southern local charm, New Orleans harbors both tanker ships and steamboats. The city is well-known for its Mardi Gras Festival, which takes place in late-February. The New Orleans Saints play at Caesars Superdome, formerly known as Louisiana Superdome and Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which has hosted seven Super Bowls. Points of interest include French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Central Business District, St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans Museum of Art, Café du Monde, Tulane University and University of New Orleans. Popular cuisine includes gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, po-boys (a traditional Louisiana sandwich consisting of roast beef or fried seafood), muffuletta (a type of round Sicilian sesame bread sandwich), beignets (deep-fried choux pastry) and bananas foster (a dessert made from bananas and vanilla ice cream). Well-sought drinks are Brandy Milk Punch, Vieux Carre, Sazerac and French 75. Now that we have a little background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in New Orleans that will help make for a remarkable experience.

  1. Awesome list. I cam speak of Bienville House Hotel review. We went for a romantic weekend in New Orleans last year, and I must confess, this hotel cant be bettered in anyway. Their staffs are friendly and helpfull. We had a 4th floor terrace room which was so fabulous. Breakfast was awesome. It’s a great location for all attractions.

  2. It’s a good detailed catalog of destination places one can find in New Orleans. I’ve never been there myself but I am kind of brows up now.

You have clearly exhausted the places where one should be especially in the coming festivities, am sure people who read this content, and your overall website will not be short of ideas to go retreat with their families during Christmas.

Keep on writing on other cities too, as you’ve been doing and probably shed more light on Africa too.

  3. New Orleans is such an amazing lively town. Finding a great place to stay in a walkable location has always seemed like the best way to enjoy the city. This is a lovely collection of penthouse rentals in some great neighborhoods. Thanks for sharing the information about how many people could stay at each place and the average cost per person – this absolutely makes for a perfect fun trip with friends!!

  4. Thank you! Really great article. Always glad that there’s another article from your website. Wow, Windsor Court hotel is really nice with that pool. I like the Tulane Avenue penthouse on the inside, as well as the huge downtown penthouse on the inside. These are all really nice and luxurious. I like the format of your articles, how you always format them in a similar way so it’s easy to follow for return visitors. Thanks for inspiring me to travel and have a great day!

  5. I’m very excited to stay at the Bienville House Hotel when we visit New Orleans. The fifteenth-floor penthouse looks awesome too so maybe we’ll stay a couple of nights in both during the visit. I would love to know if you have a personal favourite or one that you would recommend?

    1. Mike thank you for the comments! All of these are great, but it’s really about what’s best for the individual (location, cost, availability)

  7. Traveling is one thing and getting a real place to stay is another. New Orlean is among one the many cities I intend to visit after me retirement and I must confess a good place to stay in such nice environment would just be the best anyone can ask for. So far i have had problem with high rents but these one seem really cool considering the standard of these penthouses. Nice being here.

  8. Windsor court hotel actually offers all these services and great luxury for that cheap price? That is definitely one of the lowest amount I have seen such luxurious top notch places to charge for what they offer. An experience in this place would really be a thing that would last a lifetime with me. Such beauty and serenity. I like every place listed here as places to stay in new Orleans. If I ever visit new Orleans and I have the cash with me, I would try my best to stay in any of these.

  11. Thank you so much Adnin for this post. Truly speaking finding a right place to stay in New Orleans can be a challenging task. My friend and his newly married bride went there for their honey moon sometime last year and they really had a tough time locating a cool spot to stay. I wish they had access to this post before that time.

i am planning on having my honey moon there next year. I like the Bienville House Hotel. What do you think?

  12. You provided an excellent list of places to stay in New Orleans. Last time I was there was some years ago, love the French quarters and these properties look good. Spacious luxury penthouse caught my attention with 4 rooms looks really good for family travel or larger groups. It is also near city center attractions. Huge downtown penthouse is the other that caught my attention. 19 persons? Wow, that is huge. I was wondering if there really is 19 beds in this penthouse? Now, I need to find a reason to visit New Orleans.

  13. What an awesome list of penthouses. I just love New Orleans I have been many times over the course of the last 35 years. I got engaged in the middle of Bourbon St so the town and the people will always be special to me.Bleinville I can tell you is absolutely beautiful on the inside. Stayed over a weekend and would definitely recommend it.

  14. Thanks for sharing these penthouse reviews. I was browsing for future US destinations and came across your reviews. New Oleans was one destination we had considered before. Anyway, it has given me the idea to ask around my friends to see if there might be some interest from them to take a New Oleans weekend vacay as a group, and we can consider staying here at one of the penthouse suggestions you have given us depending on how many friends are interested. I much appreciate your post!

  15. New Orleans is such a wonderful city and every time I am there it seems there are new corners and delights that I had missed on previous visits. The night-life is loads of fun and the food is to die for. The only way I can think of to make it an even better experience would be to stay in one of the places that you have highlighted in this post.

The prices are reasonable and the locations ideal, most definitely since I have come across your wonderful website my eyes have been opened to the best way to experience these storied places, as New Orleans most certainly is. 18. Hello there! this is an amazing review you have got here on these hotels. My favorite among them is the Hotel Peter and Paul; such an incredible place to be with superb location in a quiet and authentic residential district east of the quarter. I will love to be there at least to enjoy its great features and sights.

  19. Wow these hotels are super dope. Last year, I was moving from Philadelphia to San Diego and one of my stops was new Orleans and then I came across the Hotel Peter and Paul, it was fantastic alongside with the cool jazz and also easy walk to Frenchman ST.

    Its my favorite now.

  20. Hey nice article you have there. As a tourist, having a good suite that will meet my needs and gives me the comfort I seek is my outmost priority. Having gone through the specifications of hotels in New Orleans, I am convinced that the Harrah’s Casino NOLA will be a perfect choice for me and my family to Lounge in during the summer holiday, as it has all what it takes to make our stay a memorable one.
