Hotels in Cancun offer sensational accommodations in a city known for its white sand beaches, turquoise ocean waters and lively entertainment. Arguably the world’s best college spring break destination, Cancun can make for an outstanding getaway for both nature and people watching. Apart from its sizzling beach and electric nightlife scenes, the Cancun area is also home to some of the world’s most interesting Mayan ruins. Chichén Itzá and Tulum, each about a 2-hour drive from Cancun, are worthwhile destinations to see Maya architecture. When traveling to Cancun, keep in mind that you should not drink, and try to avoid brushing your teeth with, tap water. Be wary of ice in beverages outside of restaurants. Beaches can have a strong undertow. Currency is the Mexican peso and the drinking age is 18 years old. Generally Cancun is a safe place, though you should be wary, especially at night, in places outside of Zona Hotelera, while you should avoid the city’s outskirts altogether. Cancun’s professional football club is Cancún F.C., which plays its games not far from the hotel zone at Estadio Olímpico Andrés Quintana Roo (capacity 20,000). Cancun festivals include Cancun Jazz Festival, Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, Inception Music Festival, Country Fest Cancun, Paradise Blue Festival, Holy Ship, Electric Zoo Adventures, Ember Shores, Sands, Etheridge Island, Only The Wild Ones Weekend, Island Time Music Festival and Spring Equinox at Chichen Itza. Hotels in Cancun are some of the most exciting to consider. Before we get you to hotels in Cancun, let’s take a look at some background information on the area to help you along the way.
A relatively new city, Cancun was once home to the Mayans. The Mayans originally referred to the area as Nizuc, which means “promontory” or “point of grass”. It wasn’t until 1970, when the area was populated by three coconut plantation caretakers, that resort development began. Playa Blanca, which became a Blue Bay hotel and eventually Temptation Resort, was the first hotel to be built. Cancun’s first nine hotels were financed by the Mexican government, as investors were reluctant to take risks. From there, tourism became the driving force in what would become a major resort city.
With a population of around 800,00 people, Cancun is located on the Yucatán Peninsula. Tourism benefits from a tropical climate, with hot temperatures year-round, while peak precipitation occurs in October. A spring break epicenter, Cancun accounts for about fifteen percent of international spring break travel. Apart from spring break, the city’s white sand beaches are great for sunbathing, people watching and snorkeling. Points of interest include La Isla Shopping Village, Isla Mujeres island, Coco Bongo night club, Chichén Itzá, Puerto Juárez, Playa Tortugas beach, Luxury Avenue boutique mall and The City Nightclub. Popular foods are fajitas, tacos, burritos, carnitas, empanadas, guacamole and various seafoods. Drinks include margaritas, mojitos, daiquiris, piña coladas and the banana monkey (a chilled drink made with coffee liquor, banana, chocolate and coconut). Now that we have a little background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Cancun that are sure to help make for a thrilling experience.

So there they are, hotels in Cancun that will help make for an exciting trip. We hope you’ve found this information valuable and most importantly, that you enjoy your time in Mexico!
Awesome post! My family and I had a very great time at Casa Tortugas! The hotel is so lovely, with excelent location and also an amazing staff! The rooms are very big and comfortable, with everything we needed. The location is also great, near restaurants, a grocery store and the beach, and just a few minutes by bus from other good places. The view from the pool is really wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a calm and an amazing place to stay!
Jordan thank you so much for the insights and recommendation! Glad to hear that you has an amazing experience at Casa Tortugas.
Hi,
These places look amazing. I spent some time in the Riviera de Maya a few years ago. We stayed in a big resort, but we always said that if we ever went back we would go self catered and be more independent to enjoy the are in a different way. I think one of these places would be perfect. I like the look of the Hard Rock Hotel to give us all the options.
Hi Tom. Thank you for the comments! Glad to hear that you found one to your liking in Hard Rock.
I really like the le blanc spa that you have mentioned here and to me, it seems to be one of the brwsr places I could possibly stay here in meixo if I ever visit. Though it is not really too far from the states but then, I just visited Cuba some years back and I’m not looking forward to exploring anywhere near for now. Thanks so much for doing this much details about the best hotels in Mexico. I might try to give it consideration sometime soon or suggest to anyone visiting. Thankd
Rodarrick thank you for commenting and glad you are considering a Mexico trip!
It’s actually the first time I’m hearing about Cancun Mexico. I wouldn’t have believed that such beautiful aces can be in Mexico. In the movies, Mexico is always depicted as a ghetto. I think I need to visit someday and for this reason, I will have to bookmark this post. I really fell in love with the Sandos Cancun Lifestyle Resort when I saw that beach beside it. Thanks for giving good information here. Cheers!
Henderson really? That’s awesome! Cheers and happy travels 🙂

Thank you Rodarrick and stop back anytime!
Wow, all terrific places! I want to visit Cancun someday, and all of these look like great suggestions for a truly relaxing and memorable vacation. Le Blanc Spa Resort looks lovely, and so does the Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas. It’s the kind of vibe and view that tourist will enjoy whether day or night.
Thank you Ron! You have a good eye for some great options here
Wow! I have once heard about the Cancun city of mexico and how beautiful it is. I love. Entertainment and exploration always and in think that this city is the best place for me. There are a lot of 5star hotels there and I can’t really wait to have a visit to this really amazing city and have fun. I am a lover of nice hotels and I admire them a lot. The list here is quite awesome and I cant wait to visit them.
Willy thank you for the comments. Cancun is a place for entertainment and adventure for sure. Happy travels out there!
Oh, this is really thrilling. I have been to Mexico before but not in Cancun. I am very eager to visit that place and see all its wonders. It must very a very good place to go to. Seeing all the nice hotels there and all the places near it is very great. I already have plans for my next trip so maybe I would put travelling to Cancun in my schedule. Are the locals very friendly?
John that sounds excellent! Locals generally are great, but don’t wander too far outside of the hotel and tourist zones.
Wow! Visiting this canum in mexico would definitely be on my bucket list of the things I need to do anytime I visit the mexico. Thanks so much for this information provided on the best hotels to explore in mexico. Wow! They all look rather elegant and beautiful. I really wish to explore any of this places. Tracy Cancun is a great place to explore for sure! Happy travels out there 🙂
What absolutely gorgeous rentals! I don’t know that I would ever want to leave the resort!
I really love how detailed you were about each resort you talked about, I feel like I know exactly what I can expect before even calling the resort. It was very helpful to know which perks and accommodations came with each suit, and also what was near by. I found it helpful that you included EVERYTHING that was near by, including convenience stores! You never know when you need to pop in for a quick item.
I also really liked the range in prices, it made it easier for me to narrow down which resort has the amenities I am looking for at a cost I’m happy to pay. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this post!
Michelle thank you for the kind comments! Great you found value in the post 🙂
WOW love your site man, i didnt realise anything like this was inside my budget range, but this has opened my eyes some of these are ridiculously cheap when split with a few friends and the places are stunning why would you not. i am literally going to chat with a few friends now to see if thety are keen haha . Do you only do Cancun ones?
Hi thehealthytradie and thanks for sharing with your friends. Not only Cancun ones no and you can find the others on the site 🙂
Hello,
Excellent review of Cancun, Mexico hotels and resorts.
A few years ago we ( my husband and I) decided to fly to Cancun. We stayed at Villa del Palmar resort. It is a beautiful resort, and I thought that it is the best resort in Cancun. Your post changed my mind; there are a lot of charming resorts and hotels. I love how detailed you were about each of them, and what kind of accommodations and convenience stores are around. Also, I liked the prices.
Thank you again for an excellent article. We will use your advice for the next trip to Cancun, Mexico.
jpaliskis thank you for the comments and glad you liked the post!
Good topic. Cancun is a very popular destination and this article provides good information about places to stay. It’s helpful to know what amenities the hotel offers. It’s also great to know what’s nearby and how far it is to certain destinations. A couple of the listings seem to be missing some of that info though. It would be nice to see more pictures to help decide where you may want to stay. Overall, very nice.
Thank you Crispy and noted
What beautiful places! I have been to Mexico a few times, and have always searched out lodgings that were quite reasonable. Places that cost as much as these have been for the most part beyond my budget.
However, will be doing another trip to Mexico soon, and now feel that I can afford to be a bit more extravagant. Actually,I really like the idea of traveling with a group, because then you can divide up the cost and make it more affordable.
You have provided a good service by offering this information to the prospective traveler. Thanks!
Fran thank you so much and happy travels!
Planning a trip to Mexico after this Covid-19 Pandemic and Cancun is absolutely the city I want to visit, thanks for your sharing on the places to stay in the city. I have look for other reviews, but they are not as thorough as yours. You did a great job by offering this information to the active traveler. Thanks again!
Zac thank you for saying!
I’ve never been to Cancun but now I sure as hell feel like visiting! So many of these places look absolutely stunning. The colours, the photos, everything makes me want to go. You’ve offered so much useful information into what can be found in these hotels and where they are situated that it’s really easy to tell my favourite ones apart. Thanks a lot for this post!
The post gives the choice of an array of hotels and apartments with some great images and a lot of information about the accommodation and the area surrounding each property. The information regarding the facilities in each of the different types of accommodation was really helpful and well presented.
Another nice part of this post was the fact that there were such a wide range of prices to choose from. I think Mexico is still generally considered pretty good value and Cancun is a well established resort now. Some of those pools and terraces look so inviting.
Nice to see working links to different restaurants, bars and nightlife venues and also to the many trips that are on offer in the resort. I would imagine that for most of us going to a resort for the first time, having this sort of information in advance is a great advantage. It helps in the planning of what to do while in resort.
After reading this post I definitely want to go to Cancun.
