Hotels in Santiago

Hotels in Santiago offer exceptional accommodations in a city nicknamed “Santi”. Cradled by the world’s longest mountain range on its eastern border, the Andes Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Chile has one of the most unique geographical areas of any country. Near Chile’s mid-point, Santiago is positioned centrally between mountains and ocean, with about 50 miles of separation on each side. One of the area’s best ski resorts is Valle Nevado, while the nearest beaches are Playa Grande Las Cruces and Playa El Quisco. US Dollars are rarely accepted in businesses, so it’s best to exchange for Chilean Pesos ahead of time where available. Santiago is one of the safest and cleanest cities in Latin America. Popular events include Santiago a Mil International Theatre Festival, Santiago International FIlm Festival, Lollapalooza Chile, Fiestas Patrias and Santiago Marathon. Santiago’s professional football clubs are Universidad Católica, Colo-Colo and Club Universidad de Chile. Hotels in Santiago are exciting to consider. Before we get to hotels in Santiago, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Santiago‘s founding dates to 1541, though archaeological evidence suggests that nomadic hunter-gatherers had inhabited the area for at least 10,000 years. In 1541, Pedro de Valdivia, a Spanish conquistador, named the place Santiago del Nuevo Extremo in honor of Saint James. Originally built in a grid layout consisting of eighteen blocks, the city was burned and nearly overrun by Michimalonco-led natives. Inés de Suárez, Valdivia’s mistress, successfully defended the city’s fort alongside 55 Spanish troops. Tactically Inés terrorized the invading natives by killing and decapitating native prisoners within the fort, putting their heads on spikes, or throwing them over the fort’s walls. Even though the city’s first few years were threatened by food, supply and clothing shortages, indigenous attacks, floods and earthquakes, expansion began to take root circa 1580. The city’s first major buildings became Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral and the San Francisco Church.

Chile’s capital and largest city, Santiago today is home to over 6.4 million Chileans. The second longest country from north to south in the world behind Brazil, Chile spans just 217 miles east-west, compared to 2,670 miles north-south.  Situated in the center of the Santiago Basin, which consists of fertile lands surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Santiago enjoys a semi-arid climate with Mediterranean patterns. High summer temperatures range in the 90s degrees Fahrenheit while winter highs are in the 50s. Culture in Santiago is driven by its monuments, cultural activities, entertainment, museums, sports, recreation and religion. Points of interest include National Museum of Fine ArtsNational Historical MuseumNational Library of ChileNational Museum of Natural History, Gran Torre SantiagoContemporary Art Museum of SantiagoFine Arts MuseumMunicipal Theatre of SantiagoGabriela Mistral Cultural CenterEstadio Nacional de ChileChilean National ZooBarrio Bellavista and Universidad de Chile.  Popular foods include pastel de choclo, a corn casserole pie with meat stuffing, empanadas, chacarero, which is a steak sandwich and curanto, a seafood, meat and vegetable stew. Wine is a popular drink and pairs well with many of the city’s seafood delicacies. Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Santiago  that will help provide for an outstanding experience.

  1. Wow, that is all I can really say.  I didn’t even know something like this existed.  I guess because my mind has never even thought about traveling in luxury to this extent.  Your pictures are incredible and the idea behind it is great too.  Now that I am getting older I want to travel in comfort.  I am spending a little more money when I travel just so that I feel comfortable where I am staying so I do not feel drained when I get back from my travels.  Hotels are a thing of the past.

  2. Any place that has cultural festivities is a great destination.  Glad to  see that Santiago has quite a number of museums to visit. Hotel Eco Boutica looks cozy enough. I love the open space plan and the huge dining set. I also love the modern finishes.

I also love the Duplex Penthouse El Golf. Feels like you are in the middle of the city. All those houses are super amazing. I like that they have put all the necessary amenities in place.

As usual, another great post by pentrental. You give us such awesome places to visit. Thank you!

  3. Great post you have up here. Chile seems to me as a nation that is deeply rooted in culture and have high cultural monuments and values. I like learning more about different culture since it is one of our strongholds as humans. However, exploration to this country would not be worthwhile without retiring into one of the suggested penthouses listed here on this post. The ambience that radiates serenity oozes from most of the suggested houses and they are all luxuriously structured. Personally, I like the Penthouse Alcantara, it looks awesome and befitting to my taste. Thanks

  4. I like the first hotel with the outdoor swimming pool. Because it has the Energy Fitness club I would probably be able to enjoy exercising there. Hard Rock Cafe is interesting I went there once when I was younger but haven’t been back since. Thanks for saying the distances from a lot of the major places you would go because that is helpful. The pictures are really nice. After reading them all and looking at the pictures, the first hotel is definitely my favorite because I actually like the picture the best and the fact that there is a gym nearby. Reading your articles makes me want to travel. Thank you! Please keep writing articles like this.

  5. Wow, I never knew that Chile held so much beauty. One of my friends is planning on a vacation there and I was wondering why he would choose Chile of all places, I think I know better now. This is a luxury at its peak and I feel that if I’m going on any travels anytime soon, I should most definitely visit the beautiful country and especially Santiago. I’m sure the people are cool with visitors.

    1. Henderson thank you for the comments! Santiago has many beautiful boutique hotels. Glad to hear that Chile has sparked your interest and happy travels out there 🙂

  6. I was staring at that picture where there’s a balcony in Penthouse Alcantara and I noticed the foggy skyline of the city. It can be smog or real fog from cold weather. That reminds me of South Africa, it has an almost similar climate as they are on the same latitude of the Earth. A female friend who’s also a travel blogger just got home from her tour of South America, and although Chile was not in her itinerary but Brazil and Argentina, I think I have to invite her to accompany me the moment I visit Chile. And thanks for the tip, I now have in mind where to stay there.

    1. Gomer thank you for the insights. Chile is not always on the travel itinerary, but for those who are traveling or considering traveling to Chile they will be happy to know that there are actually some very beautiful boutique hotels there. Santiago being located in a basin and surrounded by mountains, there are some great nature and ski areas away from the smog and fog.

  7. Well its seem like the best just keep coming. I’ve read alot about the life style in Chile and the food there but little I know about these hotels. These penthouse are really cool and for lovers of the-view-of-the-city like myself, I believe these are some of the best offers one can get. I personally have interest ins Penthouse Acantara, its really nice.

  8. Chile is not in my travel bucket list but based on your article it seems that it is a wonderful place to visit especially Santiago. I am sure the cultural heritage of Chile is as rich as my country since we were also colonized by the Spanish for more than 300 years. Maybe we share the same Spanish culture. If I go there, I would prefer the Penthouse Alcantara. I like the balcony where you can see the city and the mountains from a far. The view looks relaxing which is perfect for a vacation.

    1. Dan thank you for the comments. Santiago probably isn’t on a lot of bucket travel lists, but for those traveling there it’s nice to see some beautiful boutique hotels that are available. Being from the same cultural background, perhaps your curiosity has been spiked 😉

  9. What an amazing place, you have even us so much information this is just wonderful. Who knew Chile was so cultured, I honestly cannot wait to visit and there are so many stunning places to visit.
You have helped me make my mind up regarding accommodation at least The Hotel Matildas Boutique is definitely the place for me. thank you so much for such great information I can’t wait to go.
Do you find it expensive once you are there? Eating out etc..

    Amy

  10. This looks like an absolutely amazing place to visit, I never knew Chile was so cultured. I cannot wait to visit there truly looks some beautiful places to see and the information you have given is fantastic.

I have even made my mind up on accommodation, it has to be The Hotel Matildas Boutitique! what a place. Can you tell me if it’s expensive to eat out once your there?

    Amy

    1. Hi Amy and thanks for the comments 🙂 Matilas Hotel Boutique is a fine choice and one of the best nearby restaurants is Cosmopolitan. For reference, the “Table of Meat Oysters and Shrimp”, which is meat sauteed with oysters and shrimp 36/40 refined with mushrooms and a touch of white wine, is one of the more expensive items on the menu and costs about $20 USD. Hope that helps and stop back anytime!

  11. Chile’ may be one of the best kept secrets as far as great places to visit. Although I’ve never been there, I’ve heard a lot about it. And I LOVE their red wines (best bang for the buck usually IMO). These pictures actually give me a different perspective than the already awesome one I had. One day I’d love to go stay at the Ritz in Santiago!! Beautiful! As far as the history, I’ve learned more of that in recent years, but you’ve filled in some of those gaps. I’ll check back periodicaly to see what interesting cultures you are highlighting, Perhaps I’ll go on one of these trips once the world isn’t on lockdown.

Thanks for the article and the info!!

    Darrin

    1. Darrin you are spot on in saying it might be the best kept secret. There’s something for everyone, be it skiing, exploring the city or visiting the beaches. Once the lockdowns pass it will make for a very interesting trip for sure!

  12. I really like the look of Hotel Magnolia, it has everything you could want from a luxury penthouse stay. I have often thought about traveling to Chile, I like the culture their. Now that I have seen your fantastic recommendations I’m going to take a serious look into going there. I will show this to my husband.

    1. Hotel Magnolia is an outstanding choice as far as hotels in Santiago Chile are concerned Linda and it deserves a serious look indeed. You and your husband would have a great time no doubts about it!

  13. Heloo this is really an insightful and informative article you have here. I have really heard a lot of things about Chile, if it’s beauty it’s culture, food and so may beautiful things, this article has succeeded in making a good confirmation of what I have been hearing.its really very beautiful, their penthouses are so beautiful, UGO Hotel will be an amazing place for a relaxation. It’s welcoming and looks great.

  14. Hey nice article you have there. As a tourist, having an excellent suite on vacations has been my outmost priority, having gone through this article and the features of the hotels in Santi, I am convinced that the Ritz Carlton Santiago will be the best option for me and my family to have during our summer vacation holiday to Santiago.

  15. What a beautiful place. I have never been to Chile and this post wants me to start travelling again as soon as we are allowed to do so. I love the fact that you include attractions and things to see and do in the vicinity of each hotel in Santiago. There seem to be many museums and cultural attractions in Santiago. I prefer the smaller boutique hotels and you have presented us with many choices. Great post.

  16. Yeah, I’m really looking forward to the times when all of the COVID non-sense and lock-downs will be lifted. To that end, Chile, at least to me, is kind of the first place I want to go back to visit. The view of Santiago is just beyond mesmerizing.

Other than that, I was not aware of those bits of history. Thank you for sharing that. I mean, it’s always great to learn something more about any place (and I’m willing to) that I visit. It’s just generally really fascinating stuff. I enjoyed the list of hotels you shared a lot.

To that end, I have to be honest. I would probably have to go with the very first on the list. I know, I know. It doesn’t get more predictable than that. But that rooftop spa really sounds like something.

    Thank you, cheers.
