Hotels in Honolulu

Hotels in Honolulu offer wonderful accommodations in a destination nicknamed “Crossroads of the Pacific” and “The Big Pineapple”. Known for its beaches, hiking trails, water sports, entertainment, shopping centers, historic landmarks and fine dining, the remote  city of Honolulu is about 2,575 miles southwest of Los Angeles, and 3,857 miles southeast of Tokyo. A flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu takes a little under 5 hours, while a flight from Tokyo takes over 8 hours. Located on the Hawaiian island of O‘ahu‘s southeasterly coast, Honolulu is home to the infamous Waikiki neighborhood, as well as some of the world’s best beaches in Waikīkī Beach, Diamond Head Beach Park, Kūhiō Beach, Kaimana Beach, Queens Beach, Ala Moana Beach, Kahanamoku Beach, Fort DeRussy Beach and more. Diamond Head, an iconic volcanic peak with hiking trails and remnants of historical military fortifications, is located just behind Diamond Head Beach Park on the city’s southeastern side. Although all of the hotels in Honolulu listed below are within close proximity to one another, other Oahu worthwhile points of interest are extensive and include Pearl Harbor, Hickam Beach, Coral Crater Adventure Park, Hawaii’s Plantation Village (sugar plantation museum), Nānākuli Beach Park, Maili Pillbox (hiking area), Kaʻala Hiking Trail, Mākaha Beach Park, Kaʻena Point Trail (hiking area), ʻĀweoweo Beach Park, Haleʻiwa Beach Park, Waimea Falls (tourist attraction), Toa Luau (dinner theater), Sunset Beach Park, Mālaekahana State Recreation Area (state park), Lāʻie Point State Wayside (park), Laie Hawaii Temple (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Polynesian Cultural Center, Crouching Lion Hike (hiking area), Secret Island Check-in Counter (tour operator), Secret Island (tourist attraction), Tropical Farms Macadamia Nuts (nut store), Kaneohe Sandbar (scenic spot), Secret Beach (beach), The Byodo-In Temple (Buddhist temple), Hamama Falls (hiking trail), Heʻeia State Park (state park), Kalama Beach Park (park), Lanikai Beach, Lanikai Pillbox (hiking area), Bellows Field Beach Park, Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail (hiking area), Sandy Beach (surfing beach), Koko Crater Railway Trailhead (hiking area), Koko Head District Park (park), Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, China Walls (park), Puu Ualakaa State Park, Lulumahu Falls (hiking area), Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout (tourist attraction), Wahiawā Botanical Garden, MĀNOA HONEY & MEAD (honey and mead tasting) and Mauka Warriors Luau at Hawaii Country Club. Of course, if you plan on exploring outside of Honolulu, you’ll want to rent a vehicle. To put traversing Oʻahu into perspective, driving from Honolulu to the island’s northernmost Kawela Bay takes about 55 minutes. In other words, driving from point A to point B by roadway anywhere on the island should not take more than an hour. Keep in mind that it might be helpful to bring a waterproof phone case and bug spray. On land, there are no large predators or snakes, though do keep an eye out for centipedes and wild pigs if hiking. Swimming might not be advisable in fresh water due to contamination, so keep an eye out for safety signs. Shark attacks are relatively rare in Hawaii and occur more often on Maui Island. Be advised that although tiger sharks are spotted frequently in the waters off Oahu’s southern coast, attacks, again, are rare.  Big events include Honolulu Festival, Aloha Festival, Hawaii International Music Festival, The Mayjah Rayjah, Ukulele Festival Hawaii, Pacific Basin Music Festival, Lei Day Celebration, King Kamehameha Day, Prince Lot Hula Fest and Vans Triple Crown. Also keep in mind that Oahu and Maui are about 100 miles apart with no ferry service between the islands, so the best option for traveling between them is by flight. Hotels in Honolulu are some of the best throughout the Pacific Ocean. Before we get to hotels in Honolulu, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

Archaeological evidence suggests that the Honolulu area may have been inhabited since the 11th century. Conqueror Kamehameha the Great, born sometime between 1736-1761, was the Kingdom of Hawaii‘s first ruler. Captain William Brown of Great Britain became the first foreigner to sail into what would become present-day Honolulu Harbor circa 1794.  In 1845, Kamehameha III moved the Hawaiian Kingdom’s capital from Maui Island’s Lahaina to Honolulu. Naturally, Honolulu became an important waypoint for merchants sailing between North America and Asia. In 1898, Honolulu was annexed by the United States. Having endured a large fire in 1900, as well as the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Honolulu remained the capital and main port of the Hawaiian Islands. Following World War II, Honolulu’s economy grew exponentially by way of tourism.

With a population of around 350,000 “Kamaʻāina” (Hawaiian resident regardless of racial background), Honolulu  is the capital of Hawaii, which became the United States’ 50th state on August 21, 1959. The remotest city of its size in the world, “Honolulu” means “sheltered harbor” or “calm port” in Hawaiian. Although remote, The Big Pineapple is one of the world’s most livable (and understandably expensive) cities, and ranked as the United States’ second-safest. Honolulu’s climate is tropical semi-arid, with year-round high temperatures between 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit, and lows between 65-75 degrees. Other major points of interest include Downtown,  First Hawaiian Center, Bishop Museum, Honolulu Zoo, Waikīkī Aquarium, University of Hawaii’i, Hawaiʻi Theatre, Neal Blaisdell Center, Waikīkī Shell, Diamond Head Theatre, Honolulu Museum of Art, USS Arizona Memorial and Aloha Stadium. Popular foods are barbecue, various seafoods (including Wahoo, Goatfish, Mahi Mahi, Ahi Tuna, Opah and Kampachi), Poi (a vitamin-rich, pasty-purple Indonesian staple food), Poke (a type of diced raw fish), Kalua Pig (a smoky, shredded pork dish) and Haupia (a traditional coconut, milk-based dessert).  Commonly consumed alcoholic drinks are some of the most fun/delicious you’ll find anywhere and include Mai Tais, Hawaiian Margaritas, Scorpion Bowls, Flaming Volcanos, Mango Martinis, Lava Flows, Kiwi Coladas, Blue Hawaiis, Bay Breezes and Okolehao. A popular frozen dessert is Hawaiian ice, which is made from ice block shavings and flavored with guava, coconut, passion fruit, pineapple, mango, kiwi, lychee, li hing mui, etc., and often served with vanilla ice cream. Now that we have some background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Honolulu that will help make for an unforgettable experience.

  1. I have bookmarked your site. I really appreciate the detailed write-ups about some of the most luxurious places to stay in Honolulu, Hawaii. The pictures look beautiful. The Saint Augustine is one of the least expensive and better accommodations so it is little wonder that it is in high demand. I see you have given a wide range for people to consider. Are you always adding additional vacation destinations to your website?

  2. Hello there, thanks for putting out this awesome article as I know it would be of great help to the pubic as it has been of help to me.i have been to Hawaii a few time on vacation but I had some hotel issues but I would be going back to there later this year and I think I would go with Real Select Vacations at The Ritz-Carlton Residences or the Aston Waikiki Beach Tower because I did my study and I discovered that they are one of the best there in Hawaii

  3. Hello there. Thank youfor sharing this helpful information regarding hotels in Honolulu Hawaii. Although these hotels are so expensive, I am simply blown away by what they have to offer and the quality of their services. They’re really beautiful, well equipped and have so much we can enjoy especially when traveling in groups. I am a blogger, so I love anywhere free WiFi is offered and some of these hotels have free WiFi. Really nice.

    Regards!

  4. Hi

If there is one place I would like to visit then Hawaii comes on top of this list.  From TV and films the place looks wonderful and idyllic that you want to take the next plane out there, but before you go that you need to know what accomodation is available. This is where your article comes into play, as you have highlighted the best hotels to stay in when I visit this state. So many choices and you have make them all sound to be too good to be true. I will keep your website in mind when I book a holiday to this place.

I think I need to pack my Hawaiian shirts very soon

    Thanks

    Antonio

  5. These hotels all look amazing and are probably some of the nicest hotels that I have everseen. The Waikiki Beach Tower makes me want to go to Waikiki. Which of these hotels is your favorite and which is your favorite feature of all these hotels that you have mentioned? How much would you pay?

  6. I have always wanted to travel to Hawaii. My parents went when I was a kid and loved it.  These rental properties are amazing.  To be honest price aside, I would stay in any of them.

My absolute favourite would have to be Aston Waikiki Beach Tower.  It is absolutely stunning.  I love that it seems to be close to many great spots to eat and shop.  The price is even fairly reasonable.  That deck is unreal.  Looks like paradise to me.

Great job on really giving some amazing rental options for anyone travelling to Hawaii.

  7. Wow😍 this review is exceptional! It actually started clearly the features of the various hotels making it super attractive. As a tourist, it will put an unending smile on my face if I’m opportuned to visit Hawaii and explore the amazing features of ASTON WAIKIKI BEACH TOWER. Thanks for the review!

  8. OH, my goodness, Hawaii has always been my destination fantasy and I am working on my trip to Hawaii as we speak, I am saving up because I must cross Hawaii off my list of palaces to visit.

Reading your article makes me wish I could be there now, and the pictures, wow! I like the Anston Waikiki  Beach Tower, I can see myself sitting looking over the ocean with a cocktail in my hand, beautiful. I like that the Anston has fully functional kitchens because as much as I enjoy eating out while on holiday, there are occasions where I just want to take a break and make my own food.

And also being able to do my laundry is a plus because we all know when you stay at a hotel where they have to do your laundry the bill can grow very quickly and maybe even cost your souvenir money so I like that I am able to do my own laundry.

You have shared very useful and interesting facts about Honolulu, I didn’t know that there are over 350k people living in the city. It’s also so cool to know that Honolulu is one of the safest places on earth. That makes me want to go there for a holiday like now.

Thank you for this, I was very happy to find ideas for my future holiday in Hawaii,  and Honolulu has definitely gone in my notebook and Anston Beach Tower is the first place to consider for sure.

    1. Rose Hawaii is a great bucket list choice for sure. Glad you appreciate the hotels in Honolulu and background information as well 🙂

  9. Hi, There.
Thanks for sharing your information on the best hotels in Honolulu. The scenic beauty of all these hotels, as shown in pictures in the article, is a boon to the eyes. One must stay at least once in his lifetime at these hotels even when the cost is so high. I always pray for this privilege.
    Warm Regards,
    Gaurav Gaur

  10. Hi,

I have been planning to visit Hawaii for a long time but didn’t get the time to do so, I will be visiting it soon enough and these hotels look really great and affordable.

The ones I like is the Ritz Carlton and there exist a branch of their hotels from where I am from,

I really can’t wait to visit Hawaii.

  11. Many thanks to you for sharing such an excellent article with us .This article is very important for many people who travel to Honolulu Hawaii.I then wandered into Honolulu Hawaii several times for my workplace. And the hotels there are very nice.I was at a hotel there called Aston Waikiki Beach Tower, and the hotel was beautiful. And the thing I like most about this hotel is the kids’ flowers and modern entertainment. There is a very well-equipped cooking system for cooking. When you prove to your family you can cook and eat yourself. After reading your article, I found out about all the hotels in Honolulu Hawa and when I call next I will visit another hotel and share new exprience with you.

  12. Honolulu??? I’ve never been there but, I have seen Honolulu on the house show and it looks beautiful there. Especially, the water.

I enjoyed going over the possible hotel stays in Hawaii but, I noticed that there were not too many that were budget friendly. They did mention on House Hunters that Hawaii is sort of expensive.

I would have to enjoy one of these hotels when all my children have left the home. My favorite is Honolulu Hale Koa Luau located at 383 Kalaimoku St. Do you know if any of these hotels have group rates?
