Hotels in Cayman Islands

Hotels in Cayman Islands offer enchanting accommodations in a destination referred to as the “Caymans”. Crystal-clear, turquoise waters await in places like Rum Point, Seven Mile Beach and Cemetery Reef.  Named for rum barrels that once washed up along its shoreline, Rum Point is one of the most picturesque Caribbean destinations. When traveling to the Cayman Islands, keep in mind that the Cayman Islands dollar is this British Overseas Territory’s official currency, though USDs are readily accepted. Cars travel on the left-hand side of the road, the islands’ rainiest months are September and October, and 18 years is the legal drinking age. One of the most iconic Cayman Islands adventures takes place at a pellucid sand bar named Stingray City, where you may swim with stingrays in the open ocean. Generally offering a more laid-back experience, Cayman Islands is home to soft, white beaches. As such, try not to forget your best pair of sandals. Island events include Taste of Cayman, Cayman Cocktail Week, Pirates Week Festival, Little Cayman Mardi Gras, Cayman Islands Jazz Fest, Anchor & Den Express, Cayman Islands Orchid Show, Cayfest and Cayman Carnival Batabano. Before we get you to hotels in Cayman Islands, let’s take a look at some more background information on the area to help you along the way.

As no archaeological evidence exists to suggest that the Cayman Islands had been inhabited prior to European exploration, it is thought that the islands were first discovered by Christopher Columbus during his 1503 voyage to the Americas. Columbus originally named the islands “Las Tortugas” due to the areas’ large turtle population; though the islands were later renamed to the “Cayman Islands” after its equally large crocodile population. Thereafter, the islands became inhabited mostly by pirates, shipwrecked sailors and army deserters from Jamaica. Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, arguably the most notorious pirate of all time, operated in the waters around Cayman Islands. Legend has it that treasure buried by Blackbeard still rests somewhere in a Cayman Brac cave. In 1670, England took formal control of the Cayman Islands by way of the Treaty of Madrid, and by the 1730s a permanent English-speaking population had been established. Enslaved Africans accounted for over half the population in the first 1802 census. Slavery having been abolished in 1833, the Cayman Islands in 1863 declared itself independent from the Crown Colony of Jamaica. It wasn’t until 1972, when a new constitution was written, that the islands were granted a large degree of internal autonomy. Historically, the Cayman Islands have never levied income tax, capital gains tax, or wealth tax, which make them an attractive tax haven for financial institutions, namely hedge funds.

Roughly 270 miles south of Cuba and west of Jamaica,  the Cayman Islands is a British overseas territory located in the Caribbean Sea. Home to around 70,000 Caymanians today, the Cayman Islands benefit from little temperature changes throughout the year. Hurricane season occurs from June to November. The Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD) is the islands’ official currency, with tourism contributing significantly to GDP. Grand Cayman is home to a number of popular attractions that include Seven Mile Beach, George Town, Pedro St. James Castle, Stingray City, Hell, Cayman Turtle Centre, Mastic Trail, East End Light and Truman Bodden Sports Complex. Popular cuisine includes various seafoods, coconut shrimp, jerk chicken, turtle soup and stew, while the unofficial national dish is cassava (heavy cake), made with margarine, vanilla, boiled coconut milk, brown sugar, spices and grated cassava. Drinks include rum punch, daiquiris, piña coladas, bikini martinis and the “seven mile breeze”,  made from local vodka, cranberry and grapefruit juices, poured over ice and garnished with lime. The Mudslide frozen drink, made with vodka, coffee liqueur, Irish cream, vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, was created at Rum Point during the 1970s. Now that we’ve covered a little background information on the area, it’s time for hotels in Cayman Islands that will help make for an unforgettable experience.

  1. Needless must I say that this article has as content, paradise mirrors oozing from it. This is in fact a very interesting one and I truly fancy everything written in here. The regal beach club is surely a must visit for me if I ever got to the cayman island and the various alternatives here. It is oozingnof pure natural beauty and it is simply great to behold. The cost per person too is very considerate and should be worth staying. This is pure beauty. Thanks

  2. This is the first time I am hearing of the Cayman Islands. I wouldn’t have thought that Britain has a territory in the Carribean sea. There are so many people that live here too and I’m wondering how I never knew about it before. Pictures from this island looks so good, I am so impressed. I think I will visit on my next vacation though. Thank you a million times for sharing this one here. Cheers!

  3. Hello there, thanks for sharing this wonderful post. There are so many people who are willing to travel but have no idea of some cool place to go to, while some other know of a good location, but not a good place to stay while they are away. Looking at this post, I’m really impressed by these suggestions you have given and I wouldn’t mind visiting the Kimpton seafire resort on one of my vacations as I love the quality they have to offer and tye fitness place is one I’ll love to see.

  4. I have always wanted to try the all inclusive. I actually just had a conversation with a colleague the other day. He said that it is best to book for only 4 star and above hotels if I want to do the all inclusive. It is very affordable and everything is premium including the liquors. The liquor part sold me lol Thank you for the hotel list, amenities and the cost. I will definitely tell my husband about this amazing deal. It is cold in NYC!

    1. Nuttanee lol! Glad you found the liquor to your liking. There are lots of fine places to see in Cayman. Stay warm 🙂

  5. Now this is a vacation… Been thinking of our next vacation and reading about this sounds so heavenly… I have been to the Cayman Islands. I do like beachfront so the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman sounds like a good idea. With good food, spa, pool, beach and some diving, I can stay there forever. Bring me there now! Thanks for sharing nearby places and it’s good to know that it’s not too far from the airport!

  6. I follow this site and I agree with you. You are anything but standard. That is an interesting history of The Cayman Islands. I love that all your destination locations have great and modern taste to them. I wouldn’t want to be on vacation with no WiFi at any given time.  I see why the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa costs that much per night. I must say the view, the feel of the outside while inside is worth every penny. Those features that go with it are just amazing. Glad to see thatthere is something also affordable. Calypso Cove also has amazing views and is quite pocket friendly. Thank you for these great suggestions. Page bookmarked.

  7. I have been on holiday to Jamaica on the North West,. I know it is near to Cayman but I have never thought of checking out Cayman, maybe because I have never seen any information about what is available. Those resorts are amazing. Everything looks so peaceful I like my vacations to be away from my usual city life and in these natural island settings. From your list, I love the Ritz Carlton and the Shangri- La Bed and breakfast. Looks like I could have a really good time on the island. Thank you

  8. OOOHHH!!! I want to go to the Cayman, but I never been there.   The tours and luxury apartments or hotel cost pretty high. Put the hurriance season to avoid the disaster the people’s vacation is good idea.  Someday,  I will go there and have much fun and relax there.  Thanks for the tours the Cayman Islands.

    1. Carolyn thank you for the comments and enthusiasm! Hopefully you will get to visit the Cayman Islands very soon:)

  9. Wow, you certainly do know how to make a destination look so very appealing, I have never been to the Cayman Island or any of the alternatives but after reading your post here, I really do want to go there, the apartments that you recommend look absolutely amazing, in fact, I’m having trouble choosing a favourite  because they all look so good, thank you for sharing this excellent post, I may book up ready for next summer.

    1. Russ thank you very much for the kind words. Glad to hear you liked the Cayman accommodation recommendations and happy travels out there 🙂

  10. The first thing I thought about was a paradise for people hiding their money for tax purposes, lol. However, its easy to see why this is truly a paradise. For anyone. Good article with beautiful pictures. This is a place I definitely want to consider to be my next travel destination. Thanks a lot for this.

  11. I love history and enjoyed your section on that. I’m sure there are many colorful stories about the settlers and how they ended up there!
I couldn’t have imagined that a vacay on a private beach front is affordable if it’s set up with a group. What a way to truly relax!
I have thought of these islands primarily as a banking center, not really a place to plan a vacation (unless you’re a billionaire!).
That sun and the tropical colors of all the locations you posted are very appealing. I’d love to walk into those views!
Great info, thank you for all the specifics!

  12. I love this site… I actually bookmarked it on my commuter to come back to it. It is extremely informational, and I don’t have to go to several pages and reading to get to the price. I prefer pages like this, where you can see all that I’m reading about, without having to click several buttons to get to the final expenditures….

    Anyway… great site… keep it coming…

  13. Hi, The Cayman islands look amazing just scrolling through the different accommodation that you have to offer seems like a holiday in itself. I love the long white sandy beaches and I feel I could get lost there forever. Living in The UK the Cayman islands seem like a fantasy paradise. I love the look of the sprat luxury villa and at $88.00  a night it is a bargain.  I would love to see the cost of flights from the UK to this destination as I feel it could be quite a cheap holiday if I can get a big enough group together. I like the way that these packages work. Thanks for all the information.

  14. Thanks very much admin for this great article about the cayman island, it has really been an enjoyable article from its start to its end and thanks for providing us with the historical back ground of this island and  also some of the wonderful alternatives which have made me fall in love with the island and I think am gonna enjoy my Christmas vacation there. Thanks very much in advance.

  15. Hello there, good to see you share insights on all Inclusive Cayman Island Alternatives. If I ever needed to travel to the Cayman Island, I’ll check this list again. As an internet lover, I don’t joke with free WiFi and most of these have free WiFi and are very affordable too. They’re really beautiful too.

  16. Hi,  this sounds like the vacation of my dreams.  The price is more affordable than I thought.  I pictured it be expensive for so much luxery. For what you are getting   if you get get a group of friends together it would be a lot funner and cheaper. 8 to 10 people would be about perfect.

love the ocean front two bedroom suite.  I hope its not too hot.

  17. Thanks for this interesting post, an all inclusive offered is a really interesting and beneficial one, having so many thing under it like bike rentals, food and all. It is nice that there are alternatives for it and I like the ideas that you’ve mentioned, my favorite is the Regal beach club.

  18. Anyone of these resorts would be wonderful.  The Caymans have always sounded so exotic, and the pictures are beautiful. I am sure that spending some time in any one of these locations would assure a memorable vacation.

I enjoyed the thumbnail of the history of the Caymans and knowing how the island has been governed.  The thought that such a small population, only 65,000 people, could accommodate the fortunes of wealthy people is surprising.

Thanks for sharing the information and images.  Fun and interesting.

  23. The Cayman Islands sound like a wonderful place to take a relaxing vacation. My
favorite room would overlook the ocean. I picture myself sitting
on the patio enjoying one of their specialty cakes. I have never had turtle soup
and would probably skip that treat. If you can travel with a small group of
friends the per night rate would be affordable. The rooms that you shared are breathtaking.

  24. Beaches are truly amazing to spend one’s vacation, and this Cayman Island I must say is not only an alternative but a must travel place vacation because of its crystal clear water, serenity and far from a noisy places.  I guess as a writer, you spend a lot of time here.  Thank you for this great article.
